Linksys USB WiFi 802.11b/g/n WUSB100 Review

What the the Linksys WUSB100 lacks in size it makes up in performance and ease of installation.  The Linksys WUSB100 is a small USB Wifi adapter that works very well!

I recently pulled one of my old Pentium 4 desktop PCs out of storage and got it set up in an extra room.  All of the other rooms in the house have one or more cat-6 Ethernet connections, but this room does not as it was a late addition after the house was built.  I was not in the mood to go under the house and run the hard-wire, so I began looking at USB WiFi dongles.  Buyer beware, not all dongles are created equal!

My prior Linksys experience

I have used Linksys as my choice of home networking devices for years.  I currently have a Linksys WRT54GL wireless router and a Linksys NSLU2 USB Network Attached Storage device.  Both units work exactly as advertised and have done so for quite some time.

Linksys WUSB100 to the rescue!

I ordered my WUSB100 and received it a few days later.  Installation was a snap and I was done in under 5 minutes.  Just insert the included CD and let it install the drivers.  The installation program prompts you to insert the USB dongle near the ned of the install process.  At this point it auto-detects your dongle and then begins searching for wireless networks that are in range.  It immediately picked up my network and recognized the security protocol being used and asked for the pass-key.  I entered the pass-key and within a moment the network was connected. No hassle, no frustration, no confusion.  It just worked!

Conclusion

What a great experience!  Linksys not only put together a great product, they did the right thing and invested in an easy to use software installation and configuration program.  Kudos to Linksys.  The extra $20 for the Linksys WUSB100 was worth every penny.
